This Training is Suitable for: All mental health professionals and students, psychotherapists, counsellors, psychologists, and social workers.
This workshop will present ways of dealing with affect regulation in relation to both attachment and dominance issues in relationships. Discussion and viewing tapes that depict working with emotions related to power and identity, as well as intimacy and attachment (to transform vicious cycles into virtuous ones) will be presented. The emotions of anxiety and sadness related to threats to attachment security will be addressed. In addition, the spectrum of emotions associated with intimacy, including fear, shame, and anger as well as warmth, love, caring, joy, and excitement are also addressed. Focus will be given to promoting other-soothing and self-soothing by helping partners regulate each other's and their own affects, and where applicable, promoting forgiveness in resolving emotional injuries.
