Acceptance and Commitment Therapy 2 day Workshop

This workshop serves as a foundational training in ACT, helping mental health practitioners flexibly meet the demands and concerns of their clients through 1) increasing awareness of unhelpful patterns of behavior, 2) building willingness to come into contact with painful private content, 3) improving connection to values, 4) developing a new perspective of the self as separate from the content of our minds, and 5) ultimately engaging in meaningful behavior change.

With almost 300 RCTs to date, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a versatile and evidence-based treatment for many common issues Canadians face, including anxiety disorders, depression, chronic pain, smoking cessation, substance abuse, psychosis, and coping with chronic medical conditions. ACT works through increasing psychological flexibility: a measure of health that allows people to fully open up to all private experiences (thoughts, feelings, memories, physical sensations) in order to more readily choose how they want to act in a given situation based on what is most important to them. It is a growth approach that focuses on developing new relationships with the painful stuff we hold inside us so that we are better able to meet each moment in a way that furthers our long-term goals and allows us to live our best selves.
