Becoming a Psychologist

Becoming a registered psychologist in Ontario is a rewarding journey that blends education, practical experience, and professional development. Here’s a brief overview of the steps:

  1. Education: Start by earning a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, followed by a Master’s and/or Doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) from an accredited institution.              https://cpbao.ca/cpo_resources/psychologist-e-academic-credentials/
  2. Supervised Practice: After completing your graduate studies, you'll engage in supervised practice to gain real-world clinical experience.
  3. Licensure Exam: To become licensed, you’ll need to pass the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) and the Ontario Jurisprudence and Ethics Examination. Following these exams, you may take the Oral Examination at the end of your supervised practice year.
  4. Registration: Once you’ve completed the necessary requirements, you can apply for registration with the The College of Psychologists and Applied Behaviour Analysts Ontario (CPBAO).
